'Politics is not for everyone' and 'People don't care about the world around them' — both proven false through today's Constitution Day special event 'We, The People of India'.
The event began with a screening of the documentary 'Please Vote for Me', followed by reflections comparing it to Indian society. Participants then formed four groups and developed constitutions for their own dream islands.
A gallery walk introduced participants to women in the Constituent Assembly, fundamental rights, the Preamble and constitutional education for children. Research materials on current issues violating constitutional values were also shared.
The turnout, energy, enthusiasm, and the quality of debates and discussions gave us immense hope — this is what democracy looks like when people truly engage.
